Insurance Services Division Q & A
Do I have to be a PTA member to use the service?
NO . Call and ask about the service if your questions are not answered below.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. This is a free service available to all PTA members or not.
Even if I want to sign up, it still costs nothing?
That is correct. There is no charge for this service. The only monies you would be required to pay would be your monthly premium to the insurance company should you select an insurance plan and sign up. In that case, all monies would be paid directly to the insurance company, and your premium would in no way be increased, or impacted by using this service.
What companies do you work with?
All the major companies:
Blue Cross,
Blue Shield,
Aetna,
Pacific Care,
Kaiser Permanente,
and many others.
Can I get health insurance quotes?
Yes. Simply email insurance@propta.com, or call 1800-317-3577 ext 4, and after answering a few questions, you can have quotes from the top insurance companies emailed, or told to you over the phone.
What kind of questions will I have to answer?
Insurance rates are determined by your age, health history, and where you live; though, you may also be asked what kind of plans you are interested in, so you get the right plan for your situation.
What if I like the quote and want to sign up?
It is easy, and a specialist will walk you through the process. In most cases it can all be done on-line.
Can I apply for health insurance on-line?
In most instances, yes. If this option is not available, an application can either be emailed, or mailed to you.
When can my coverage start?
You can request a plan start anytime between 1 and 90 days; though, insurance companies will need time to process your application. As a result, the actual start date for your coverage may vary.
Can I sign up for a PPO plan?
PPO, HMO, and HSA (Health Savings Account) plans are available.
What if I don’t know the difference between a PPO and a HMO?
Call the PTA Insurance Services Division and ask; they will be more than happy to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each, and answer any other questions you may have.
What if I have a spouse, or children who need coverage?
No problem. Licensed representatives will look at different options, including family plans, or individual plans with children added; they will explore all available options to get you the best plan for your situation.
What if I already have health insurance?
Call anyway. The worst they can tell you is you have the best plan for your situation, with the best company for your situation, at the cheapest price. More often than not, however, this is not the case.
Aren’t all health insurance plans and companies pretty much the same?
Absolutely not. Insurance rates and coverage can differ drastically from company to company. Some companies have no maternity coverage at all, for example. In this instance, if you are thinking about starting a family, you should probably know if your policy, or even your company, cover pregnancy.
